401(k) Industry Focusing on Use of Annuities to Enhance Retirement Security
Increasingly, the benefits community is exploring ideas that might encourage 401(k) account holders to annuitize at least part of their retirement saving. Their reasons: Concerns that retired individuals will outlive their retirement savings, especially because retirees now are living longer. Worries over whether investment strategies funded by lump sums are sound also have been exacerbated by recent financial market volatility.
